User stories had three aspects: Card, Conversation and Confirmation. Most organisations got the card part right but struggled with conversation and confirmation. Example mapping is a lightweight approach to have short, productive and structured conversations around user stories.
It was developed by Matt Wynne, co-creator of BDD cucumber framework. Example mapping is a method for business stakeholders, developers and testers to develop a common understanding of the user stories.
It is a light weight method to verify the stories readiness for development, explore gaps and break stories into smaller parts. It can be incorporated into any agile methodology as part of three amigos, backlog refinement, planning poker, specification workshop or discovery workshop. At the end of session participants will be able to use example mapping to have structured conversation and address challenges in conversation and confirmation
